The WCFS Years of Westport's 1260 AM
The station certainly did an admirable job in becoming visible. The station did many remote broadcasts ranging from live appearances at area retail merchants to special community events such as Norwalk's Oyster Festival and Westport's Festival Italiano. Thanks in part to the Oldies-based music format, the station formed an alliance with one of the local classic car clubs and their members would often show up at location broadcasts to display their beautiful automobiles.
All sorts of promotions were used to expose listeners to the station and its new image. The more notable ones included the one-millionth bagel sold at a Westport deli and another was the Wurlitzer Jukebox giveaway. On-air promotions and remotes promoted the grand prize of a 50's vintage jukebox which would be given away at a special drawing. Listeners won mini jukebox-style tape players as well.
Other promotions included giving away everything from pizzas to a new Nissan Sentra. Even with the stellar efforts put forth by the station they never really got the turnouts enjoyed by their rival stations.
