About The History of Westport Connecticut Radio Tribute Site
The History of Westport Connecticut Radio - WMMM Tribute site was created by former WMMM chief engineer Bill DeFelice as an attempt to preserve a small piece of radio related history. The initial focus of this site was the AM station licensed to Westport on 1260 KHz from its broadcast debut in 1959 until the end of its commercial broadcasting life in 1997. The original history for the companion FM station licensed to Westport was from its broadcast debut in 1962 until its change in ownership in 1984. At the request of many site visitors this site will expand its historic coverage of Westport's FM station into its more recent era as WEBE108. This newer information will be added to the site as it is researched.
Much of the information used to create this site had been compiled from a variety of sources, including music trade publications, broadcast trade publications, conversations via phone and email with former station employees and various news publications. I would also like to express my appreciation to Mark Graham for providing me with the station's scrapbook which provided a vast majority of the information for the site.
Audio presented on this site is used as a historic time line of representing the programming heard on the stations. The history is presented to both educate as well as enlighten those who may be curious about the radio stations licensed to Westport, Connecticut.
This tribute web site is a non-commercial venture and has no association with any of the current licensees of the broadcast properties currently licensed to Westport operating on 1260 KHz AM and 107.9 MHz FM.
